Take a quick trip back to day 1 of the Battle of the Bulge. Learn where and how the Germans attacked and how American forces responded through historic video and images and first person recollections from soldiers who were there.
Quick Ideas for Using the Video with Students:
1. Use the video to introduce a class discussion or activity related to the Battle of the Bulge or to fighting World War II in general.
2. What is student response to Mr. Green’s description of the army’s retreat? Were they surprised? Have students do additional research to learn how the tide of the battle was turned back in the Allies favor.
3. Use this video in conjunction with Mr. Green’s longer “I Remember” video titled “Fighting in the Battle of the Bulge” as part of your study of the war in Europe.
4. After viewing the video, check for student understanding by having them write a letter home to a family member from the perspective of Mr. Coyle, Mr. Watson, or Mr. Green.
